Abstract

Angiodysplasia is a mucosal and/or submucosal vascular malformation, which can be localised anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract. It is most commonly described in adults, whereas it is very rarely diagnosed in the paediatric population, consequently the paediatric data in the literature are scarce. The aetiology of angiodysplasia in children is unknown. It can present with important bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract. Angiodysplasia in children is most commonly localised in the small intestine and the left side of the colon. Angiodysplastic lesions are usually detected by CT angiography and endoscopic procedures, which are also the optimal therapeutic options. Two children with bleeding angiodysplastic lesions in the colon, treated successfully with argon plasma coagulation during endoscopy, are described in the article.
