Abstract
Collodion infants are born encased in a thick cellophane – like membrane. The diagnosis is based on clinical examination of the newborn. There is increased insensible water loss, heat loss and risk of cutaneous infection. The newborn should be placed in an environment that provides the appropriate humidity and temperature. The final clinical diagnosis of skin disease is made only after long – term observation, but genetic analysis enables more rapid prediction of disease outcome.
Key words: collodion baby, skin, ichthyosis.
