Abstract

Pityriasis versicolor is a common, benign, chronic, superficial fungal infection of the skin caused by the hyphal (filamentous) form of Malassezia spp. The occurrence of PV before puberty or after the age of 65 years is uncommon. The involved skin regions are usually the trunk, the back and the proximal extremities. Isolated facial involvement is rare. The diagnosis, based on clinical presentation, should be confirmed by potassium hydroxide (KOH) examination. We present a case of an 8-year-old, previously healthy boy, with rare presentation of PV infection.
