Abstract
Children often present to the paediatrician with joint problems. Occasionally they subside spontaneously after rest, but, in some cases, they are a sign of chronic joint disease. The differential diagnosis of joint problems is very extensive. Severe sequelae can be prevented or reduced by appropriate and immediate intervention. A thorough history and physical examination are the basis for subsequent laboratory tests, imaging and referral to the appropriate specialist for further assessment. Recommendations for treatment of a child with joint problems are presented in this paper.
