Abstract

In the modern world, eating disorders are becoming a more and more common disease, which occurs typically in younger and younger populations and affects not only girls but also boys. It is a complex disease with a multi-determined aetiology, where a person with an eating disorder firmly denies having any problem with eating. The most common forms of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Treatment in the Department of Child Psychiatry is organized using a multidisciplinary team approach. The patient is admitted to hospital only when all other forms of help have failed, and the patient’s state of health remains unchanged. Treatment is designed in several stages with the cooperation of a multidisciplinary team.

Key words: child and adolescent, eating disorders, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, stages of treatment.
