Abstract

Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) producing Staphyloccocus aureus (SA) is a cause of severe and potentialy fatal osteomyelitis in children. Incidence of osteomyelitis, caused by PVL SA is increasing. It usually causes multiple complications that differentiate it from PVL-negative SA disease, including multiple abscesses, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and fulminant sepsis. Due to lack of awareness and diagnostic testing for PVL toxin, this kind of osteomyelitis is often unrecognized.
