Abstract
Corrosives are substances (acids and alkali) that cause direct damage to tissue when in contact with skin or mucous membranes. When a poison causes a certain kind of defect, it is referred to as poisoning. Most acute cases of poisoning pass without somatic consequences for the patient. Nevertheless, they present quite a broad problem as regards incidence and are an important reason for hospitalisation. By applying appropriate preventive measures, it would no doubt be possible to decrease the frequency of accidental poisoning cases. The article below describes poisoning by corrosives and presents an example of poisoning by potassium permanganate.
Key words: poisoning, corrosives, child, nursing.
