Abstract
Epilepsy is a chronic illness that affects the child and adolescent and everybody who meets him/her. The article presents a denition of the disease, its incidence, prevalence and aetiology. The nursing sister must know and recognise signs and symptoms of the disease. Treatment is complex. In addition to antiepileptic drugs, surgical treatment is available for refractory seizures. In Slovenia we require a nursing sister who is a specialist in the eld of epilepsy.
