Abstract

Anorexia nervosa can be classified among the severe mental disorders and it has the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. Because of the complexity of this disease and the medical complications that often accompany it, treatment in the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases is conducted through different stages following the guidelines of liaison treatment. The first stage is the stage of reinstitution of body weight, which is followed by the stage of body weight stabilization. Throughout the treatment process, which is usually prolonged, the medical staff must maintain an encouraging, yet consistent relation¬ship with the patients, because our primary concern is to prevent serious consequences.

Key words: anorexia nervosa, endocrinology, management, nurse.
