Abstract

A review of the literature reveals that children are at risk of pressure ulcers in the same way as adults. A child is fundamentally different from an adult, as is his skin. Children’s skin has enough collagen and elastin and is thus more resilient to pressure and shearing forces than the skin of adults. Research has shown that children also differ from adults in the anatomical sites of skin damage. In most cases, the treatment of children remains the same as that of adults. It is important to know and understand the basic physiology of the formation of pressure ulcers and the factors causing the development of pressure ulcers or increasing the risk of pressure ulcer formation. The Braden Q scale is a tool for pressure ulcer risk assessment in children. An accurate assessment, documentation, prevention and treatment are all key factors that we must know and take into account.

Key words: pressure ulcer, child, assessment, Braden Q scale, preventive measures, treatment.
