Abstract

Ichthyosis is a large heterogeneous group of skin diseases with disordered keratinisation and epidermal damage. In some cases after birth the skin looks like it is wrapped in cellophane, in other cases the skin is covered with scales and blisters. Neonates with ichthyosis need immediate intensive care, since their skin is susceptible to increased heat and fluid loss and at risk of infection. Besides complete management of the neonate, special attention is given to nursing care of the diseased skin with emphasis on prevention of infections.

Key words: newborn, skin, ichthyosis, nursing care skin.
