Abstract
Working with a child in the health care system differs from working with an adult patient due to the child’s constant changing as a result of physical and intellectual development and growth. A nurse must be familiar with factors that affect the provision of quality atraumatic health care of the child. Her professional work requires the creation of conditions for the implementation of child–friendly health care, thus respecting the principles and values of health care. The article presents the factors that determine a quality atraumatic approach to health care and the nurse´s role in ensuring that atraumatic health care is indispensable in dealing with the child and/ or adolescent.
Key words: atraumatic health care, child/adolescent, nurse.
