Abstract
Abdominal migraine is a relatively rare functional gastrointestinal disorder characterised by attacks of acute abdominal pain, lasting at least 1 hour, followed by periods without any symptoms that can last for weeks or even months. In addition to pain, attacks can also be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. This disorder is characterised by stereotypical attacks in an individual patient. Attacks are triggered by similar triggers, specific for each patient, such as fatigue, stress, sleep deprivation, travel, etc. There are many differential diagnoses ranging from structural anomalies and inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract to metabolic, neurological, psychiatric diseases and also other functional gastrointestinal disorders. Treatment is based on the avoidance of triggering factors, prevention of attacks with medications, treatment of ongoing attacks with medications and supportive treatment of electrolyte imbalances and dehydration during attacks.
Key words: abdominal migraine, functional gastrointestinal disorders, child.
