Abstract
The article discusses keratosis pilaris, one of the most common dermatoses that a primary care physician sees in everyday clinical practice. Keratosis pilaris is clinically diagnosed by the characteristic appearance and distribution of the skin lesions. Despite its benign course, some patients or their carers find the skin lesions cosmetically displeasing, while some are also concerned about possible underlying diseases. The aim of this article is to present the clinical characteristics of pilar keratosis in detail, to describe differential diagnostic considerations in a patient with pilar keratosis and possible treatments. Primary care clinicians can treat this dermatosis without referral to a dermatologist.
Key words: pilar keratosis, skin, child, dermatosis.
