Abstract

Kingella kingae is one of the most frequent causative agents of osteoarticular infections in young children. These infections are more often demonstrated by the inoculation of synovial uid in blood culture vials, but the diagnostic yield can be further improved by the use of molecular methods. In this paper, a 20-month-old boy with K. kingae septic arthritis of the knee, diagnosed for the rst time in our clinic, is presented. The bacterium is frequently resistant to antibiotics that are regularly used for empirical treatment of osteoarticular infections.

Key words: septic arthritis, diagnostic work-up, treatment, child.
