Abstract
Despite similarities, mechanical ventilation in children is quite different from that in adults. The main reason is the continuously changing respiratory physiology, which changes from neonatal to adult respiratory physiology as the child grows and matures. Physicians working with children with respiratory failure need to be proficient in both neonatal and adult mechanical ventilation because paediatric mechanical ventilation is a mixture of both, depending on the age of the child.
